From Campus Heartthrob to Hair Loss Struggles: A Young Programmer’s Wake-Up Call

Today, I’d like to share the story of a friend—let’s call him Xiao Zhang.

Xiao Zhang is a post-90s guy, tall (around 6 feet), fair-skinned, and naturally good-looking—the kind of person many would consider an “ideal type.” Back in college, he loved sports, especially basketball, and often attracted attention from girls. It wasn’t uncommon for him to receive bottled water from admirers after games.

Despite the attention, Xiao Zhang wasn’t focused on dating. He devoted most of his time to studying and exercising, becoming one of the top students in his class.

After graduation, he quickly landed a job as a programmer. At work, he was still well-liked—especially by some of his female colleagues, who would occasionally invite him out for meals or show interest in getting to know him better.

Confident and easygoing, Xiao Zhang enjoyed life. He sometimes accepted these invitations, and everything seemed to be going well—at least on the surface.

But then, something unexpected happened.

One morning, he found himself avoiding the mirror.

What could make someone who was once so confident suddenly afraid to look at himself?

The answer lies in his lifestyle after starting work.

Although Xiao Zhang performed well at his job, the reality was far from easy. He often worked overtime until 2 or 3 a.m., dealing with demanding projects that left him mentally drained. The healthy routine he once had in college—going to bed early and waking up early—was replaced by a cycle of sleep deprivation.

He slept only about four hours a night, relied on coffee during the day to stay awake, and used tea at night to keep going.

One morning, when he finally looked at himself in the mirror, he was shocked.

His skin looked dull and unhealthy. But even more alarming was his hair—noticeably thinner, with a receding hairline. He no longer looked like the energetic young man he once was, but rather like someone much older and worn out.

At that moment, it hit him: his female colleagues hadn’t reached out to him in a long time. No more invitations, no more casual chats.

He realized the change wasn’t just in his schedule—it was in his appearance.

Hair loss had made him look nearly ten years older. His confidence took a hit, and he began to feel the emotional weight of it.

Thinking about it, Xiao Zhang knew the cause was clear: chronic late nights, high stress, and an unhealthy routine.

For the first time, he decided something had to change.

Running his hand through his thinning hair, he couldn’t help but feel a mix of frustration and disbelief. He had once had thick, healthy hair—how did it come to this?

Luckily, the weekend was approaching. After a long stretch of intense work, he finally had time to relax, take care of himself, and rethink his habits.

He began to understand something he had overlooked before: hair plays a huge role in overall appearance. Thinning hair can make a person look older, less energetic, and less confident.

Determined to improve, Xiao Zhang decided to invest in proper hair care and start rebuilding healthier habits.

His story is a reminder for all of us.

Don’t wait until you start losing your hair to realize how important it is. Avoid staying up late whenever possible, maintain a balanced routine, and take care of your body—including your hair.

Because once it’s gone, you may wish you had started sooner.
