How to Avoid Getting Ripped Off with Hair Extensions | 7 Years of Personal Experience
Today I really want to share some practical knowledge about hair extensions with you girls. Have you been seeing those ads for “full-head extensions for 800 or 900”? Not only did I see them — I actually went and tried it myself. And yes, I got badly ripped off.
Let me share my experience over the past seven years, along with some tips to help you avoid making the same mistakes.
If, after getting hair extensions, you wash your hair and it turns into something like a bird’s nest — completely tangled and impossible to comb through — then unfortunately, you’ve probably been scammed.
There are usually three main reasons for this:
1. Cutting corners to save time
Some hairstylists, in order to save time, attach the amount that should be split into two strands onto just one strand of your natural hair. This uneven distribution creates excessive tension and almost always leads to tangling later on.
2. Uneven placement
Sometimes the extensions are not distributed evenly — for example, more on one side and less on the other. This not only looks unbalanced and unattractive, but can also create visible layering or a disconnected appearance.
3. Poor hair quality
Hair quality makes a huge difference.
-
Good-quality hair can be reused three or four times without any issues.
-
Poor-quality hair, on the other hand, will start tangling badly after just one wash. It quickly turns into a messy, matted “bird’s nest.”
Many of those low-priced extension deals cut costs by using inferior hair.
Honestly, when I first saw the “800 for a full head” deal, I was really tempted. I decided to give it a try.
When I arrived, they brought out what looked like a reasonable amount of hair. But halfway through the process, they suddenly told me I needed to add more hair — which meant paying extra.
That wasn’t even the worst part.
The final result looked so bad that I couldn’t even go out in public. I truly felt like I was being used as practice. It was a terrible experience.
So if you’re in Zhengzhou and planning to get hair extensions, please be careful. Don’t just go for the cheapest option. We’re spending money for good results — not to become someone’s experiment.
I’ve previously done a princess cut, as well as perming and coloring, with A Jie, and the results were all beautiful. I was very satisfied.
I hope my experience helps you avoid the same mistakes.
