Waist-Length Hair in Just Two Hours — Would You Dare?

Many girls who love beauty hope to change their look whenever they want. Cutting long hair short can be done instantly, but growing short hair long — especially to waist length — usually takes years. Today, however, the hair industry’s seamless hair extension technology can give beauty lovers waist-length hair in just two hours.

Popular Among Fashionable Young People

Recently, on the streets of the capital city, more and more fashionable young women with brightly colored, flowing long hair can be seen. According to Qiqi, director of a styling salon in the city, “Since the beginning of summer, we’ve had a large number of customers coming in for hair extensions. We can complete six or seven orders a day, and about 80% of the salon’s revenue now comes from hair extension services.”

“Waist-length hair in just two hours — would you dare to try it?” Qiqi explained that seamless hair extensions first became popular in Beijing. At the beginning, they were mainly used for styling celebrities and actors. Over time, the technique has become increasingly popular among fashionable women.

There are currently three main types of seamless hair extensions:

  • Braided hair extensions

  • Eco-film tape-in extensions

  • Seamless crystal thread extensions

How the Procedure Works

While observing a stylist working on a client, the reporter saw the stylist take out a bundle of neatly prepared real human hair, about 70 centimeters long. The client’s hair was divided into layers. Using a tail comb, the stylist lifted a small section of hair and placed a tape-in extension piece (with the adhesive side facing upward) about 5–250px away from the hair roots. The hair was pressed onto the adhesive, then another extension piece was aligned from above and bonded in the same way. The stylist gently pressed the two pieces together from left to right to ensure a firm hold.

The extension process itself took about 30 minutes. After coloring and styling, which took around two hours in total, the girl who had short hair just moments before suddenly had waist-length hair. The hair felt soft and smooth, and the extensions were almost undetectable.

High Cost, but Strong Market Potential

The reporter later visited another seamless hair extension salon to ask about pricing. According to the store manager, Wang Yue, the price mainly depends on whether real human hair or synthetic hair is used, as well as the amount of hair required and the quality of hair dye products.

“We use real human hair pieces that are carefully hand-stitched onto PU tape, strand by strand. After the procedure, only the hair strands are visible, giving the most natural and seamless effect. Because of this high quality, the price is relatively high — usually between 2,000 and 3,000 yuan for the full service,” she said.

Wang Yue added that hair extension services have long existed in Hohhot, but in recent years the technology has improved significantly, producing more natural-looking results. As more people are willing to try hair extensions, more salons are now specializing in seamless extensions and hair coloring. She believes that as demand continues to grow, the market still has great potential.

Real Human Hair Extensions May Cause Skin Problems

However, hair extensions are not without risks.

Xue Wei recently had hair extensions done at a salon. She told the reporter, “About a month after getting the extensions, my scalp became extremely itchy. Even washing my hair every day didn’t help. Later, many small bumps appeared. After going to the hospital, I learned that I had developed a scalp allergy. I quickly went back to the salon to remove the extensions, but a lot of my already thin hair fell out. I really regret it.”

Li Bing, a dermatologist at Inner Mongolia People's Hospital, warned that allergic reactions and bacterial infections can occur with real human hair extensions because of hygiene and safety concerns. During manufacturing, transportation, and even the stylist’s handling process, there may be situations where hygiene standards are not strictly maintained. This can lead to scalp infections or other skin problems.

She advises that people who prefer long hair, especially women, should focus on maintaining a healthy diet that supports hair growth and take proper care of their scalp and hair. Allowing hair to grow naturally remains the safest and healthiest option.
